Craft Courses

Half-day, one-day and multi-day courses in a variety of traditional woodland crafts

What Crafts do you Teach?

Our main focus is traditional crafts related to buildings, especially those using timber and coppice products. We have run (or hope to run) courses in the following skills:

  • Hewing
  • Timber framing
  • Peg making
  • Spar making
  • Hurdle making
  • Lime burning

We are also interested in other woodland crafts and skills, such as:

  • spoon carving
  • paper making
  • nettle string making
  • pole lathing
  • natural dyeing
  • foraging

What are the Courses Like?

Some courses are taught by ourselves, where we have the relevant expertise. Others are taught by visiting tutors who have exceptional skills in their craft.

Each course is different, but most courses have 12 places for participants. Multi-day courses often include an interactive introduction to the ecology of ancient woodland.

Almost all courses include hot drinks and cake, and full-day or multi-day courses generally include meals (usually hearty soup reheated over the fire in the wood).  If you need accommodation, we are usually happy for you to camp in the wood if you are attending a course (please discuss this with us first!) or you can book a room in the Kings Head pub, just a short walk from the wood.
